Earlier this evening the Orix Blue Wave and the Tokyo Giants played the season opener at Korakuen Kyujo.
The game started out even, but in the 2nd inning the Blue Wave took
off. With 4 home runs, two pair of back-to-back bombs in back-to-back
innings, this was certainly the start of the inevitable win over the
Giants of Tokyo. Cal Ripken and Bobby Bonilla ripped the first pair,
while David Justice and Roger Maris combined the next inning on the
second pair. All four rips came off Tokyo forkballer Shigeru Sugishita.
Hideo Fujimoto on the mound for Orix gave up only 3 hits over the 9
innings. I'm sure the Giants were not expecting this outcome. Even with
several pitching changes, it was too late for the Giants to stop the
Blue Wave from winning the contest. Final score: Orix 8, Tokyo 1.
