Keokuk swept division rival Montreal in a two-game set this week.
In the opener, Fergie Jenkins (1-1) and Steve Carlton (2-0) locked
horns in a classic duel between power pitchers. A Turkey Stearnes
homer leading off the bottom of the second was the only tally notched
by either club.
The second game was more wide-open, with both Sam Leever (2-0) and
Kazuhisa Inao (0-1) giving up big innings; despite a 3-spot in the
eighth fueled by an A-Rod double and two run-scoring groundouts,
Montreal's comeback bid fell short.
Goose Goslin knocked in three runs with two doubles, and the Other Deacon went the distance for Keokuk, who won 6-4.
