LEGENDS LEAGUE Fireman of the Year Award Vote Tally

Troy Percival The Legends League Fireman of the Year Award voting was a resounding confirmation of the extraordinary year Troy Percival had. Percival received 78% of the first-place votes, and 46% of the total vote. Percival set a high standard for all Legends League Firemen who will follow him.

Percival led the league in Saves (36) and Save Percentage (.900). He was 2nd in the Legends League in Games Finished (52) & Save Opportunities (40), while 9th in Games (63).

Tom Henke (11%) and Robb Nen (11%) were the only others to receive first-place votes, one each. They received 12% & 8% of the total votes cast, respectively. It should also be noted that Tom Henke's second place standing in the vote tally is an acknowledgement of the importance of the middle reliever and setup man, the roles Henke was called on to perform this year. Hoyt Wilhelm (12%) scored higher than Nen without receiving a first-place vote.

UNION LEAGUE Fireman of the Year Award Vote Tally

Mariano RiveraA much closer tally was held in the Union League with only 9 relief pitchers getting votes, but the dominance of the winner over the league's batters is still unquestioned. Mariano Rivera received 56% of the first place votes while leading the pack with 34% of the total vote. Goose Gossage came in second with 22% of the first-placers, and 23% of the total vote. Workhorse and all-around relief guy, Mark Eichorn was third with 22% of the first-placers and 12% of the total vote.

Rivera was tied for the Union League lead in Save Opportunities (37), and was 2nd in Saves (30), Save Percentage (.811), and Games Finished (48) while only 18th in Games (55).

Nobody else received any first place votes, and no other pitcher scored higher than 4th-place Bruce Sutter's 6% of the total vote. However we should note that all the pitchers who were voted for had very good seasons
